In late January, workers at Tembec's sawmill in Timmins signed a new five-year contract, with 91 per cent of the members of the Industrial, Wood and Allied Workers of Canada Local 2995 approving it through a vote, an official with the union says. Outlined in the contract, workers will receive a pay raise of 45 cents an hour, retroactive to September 2001, the previous contract expiry date. Workers will receive another raise of 45 cents an hour in September 2002, followed by 50 cents more an hour in 2003, 55 cents in 2004 and 60 cents in 2005. Both company and union officials say they are pleased with the outcome of the contract.
