Nipigon is a progressive township of 1,661 residents, with 1,583 people living within a commutable distance. The township covers an area of 109 square kilometres and is strategically located near the centre of Canada on the Trans-Canada Highway, 100 kilometres east of the City of Thunder Bay on the shores of Lake Superior.

Nipigon is an established district service hub because of the transportation networks and regional services that converge in the community. Nipigon boasts a healthy diversity of businesses in commercial, retail, government, industrial supply and service, and tourism sectors. Nipigon also benefits from the presence of government services such as the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, Ontario Provincial Police detachment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and Parks Canada administration office.

With a long history of forestry manufacturing, Nipigon is equipped to support new investments in forestry and mining. The local labour force is skilled and experienced in natural resource manufacturing and management. There is also a high potential for Nipigon to position itself as an area of investment for mining services.

Amidst one million hectares of fresh water and more than 70 species of fish, Canada’s most impressive fresh water fishing can be experienced on the waters that surround Nipigon. The Nipigon River is home to a world record for brook trout, caught in 1915 by
Dr. J.W. Cook, weighing in at 14 pounds, eight ounces.

The quality of life in Nipigon is second to none. Nipigon’s recreation programs and exceptional natural beauty make it an attractive place to live,
do business, and visit.
