Rachel Pineault has been awarded the 2023 Rick Hutson Mentorship Award from Women in Mining (WIM) Canada.
Pineault is currently a board member with the Goodman School of Mines at Laurentian University in Sudbury.
She is one of five women from across the country to be recognized by the organization, an advocacy group that wants to increase the participation of women in mining through education and empowerment.
“Without visibility and awards highlighting the contributions women are making to this industry, females will remain under-represented. The sector will lag in its ability to reach its potential,” according to WIM.
“The Women In Mining Canada Trailblazer Awards Series recognizes women who embody the trailblazing spirit, which refers to the leadership mindset needed to make extraordinary personal strides to navigate the Canadian mining industry.”
The Rick Hutson Mentorship Award goes to a mentor or coach who has supported, encouraged, guided, and advised women along their journey in the Canadian mining industry, either in school or in their careers.
Pineault is currently the vice-president of human resources and community engagement at Treasury Metals.
Previously, she has served as the vice-president of human resources at Battle North Gold, the director of human resources at Kirkland Lake Gold’s Canadian operations, vice-president of human resources and Aboriginal affairs at Detour Gold, and head of human resources and Aboriginal affairs for De Beers Canada’s Victor Mine.
Pineault holds a Certified Human Resources Executive designation, using her expertise to develop human resources and community initiatives to drive organizational effectiveness.
In addition, “She is a sought-after speaker, a motivational team leader, and an industry expert with an enviable history of HR accomplishments on both corporate and operational levels,” WIM noted. “Rachel is dedicated about developing the next generation of passionate and driven industry leaders.”
