Nordex Explosives has received the first firm purchase orders for its “ButtBuster” product, manufactured at its Kirkland Lake facility. The order is worth $750,000 and is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2014.

The company’s recently completed Kirkland Lake manufacturing plant is the first technologically advanced ButtBuster facility outside of Australia, where ButtBuster was originally developed by Johnex Explosives.

Things are turning around for Nordex, which experienced delays due to lack of financial resources in 2010 and 2011. With a new board and new management in place in 2012, funds were raised through shareholders and an NOHFC grant, and the manufacturing plant was completed this fall.

“We appreciate the support that Johnex Explosives, the Ontario government and our shareholders have provided us and now we are focused on growing higher margin sales,” Nordex CEO said in a news release. “With the exclusive rights to the manufacturing and distribution of the ButtBuster products in Canada, Nordex Explosives Ltd. is the only company with the ability to supply the construction and mining industries with one of the best and most efficient perimeter control products in the world.”

Over the last year, Nordex has opened additional offices in Sudbury and on Manitoulin Island. In late November, the company announced it had achieved its highest third-quarter revenues in the 43-year history of the company.
