The Innovation Quarters/Quartier de l’Innovation has opened applications for the second cohort of the incubation program. This program is designed to nurture and support aspiring entrepreneurs in the early stage or ideation phase of their business ventures.
Building on the success of its inaugural cohort, the Innovation Quarters’ incubation program aims to foster innovation, drive economic growth and create jobs in Greater Sudbury.
“Our entrepreneurs have big ideas and continue to foster innovation across our city, creating new employment opportunities and helping to grow our economy,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre. “With an emphasis on encouraging creativity and collaboration, the incubation program is providing mentorship and training for individuals looking to start and build their own business from the ground up.”
The Innovation Quarters’ incubation program spans six months and offers a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs to receive one-on-one mentorship from industry experts, and specialized training sessions to address the unique needs of their business ideas. The program also provides entrepreneurs with a collaborative workspace in a vibrant and inspiring environment, where they can network and learn from fellow innovators.
“The Innovation Quarters is designed to be a hub of innovation and ideas, bringing together seasoned and new entrepreneurs to support one another,” said Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) chair Jeff Portelance. “The incubation program allows participants to ramp up their new business quickly and learn from mentors in our community.”
Applications will remain open until Sept. 24, 2023. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, and the program will begin on Nov. 8, 2023.
The downtown business incubator is a priority of the 2019-2027 City of Greater Sudbury Strategic Plan and the GSDC Economic Recovery Strategic Plan. The program builds economic development initiatives that attract new businesses and promote entrepreneurship. Through the approval of city council, the GSDC is investing $1.16 million in the program over four years. Additional investments have come from FedNor and the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.

About the GSDC: The GSDC is the economic development arm of the City of Greater Sudbury, consisting of an 18-member volunteer board of directors, including city councillors and the mayor, and supported by city staff. Working with the director of economic development, the GSDC acts as a catalyst for economic development initiatives and supports the attraction, development and retention of business in the community. Board members represent various private and public sectors including mining supply and services, small and medium-sized enterprises, hospitality and tourism, finance and insurance, professional services, retail trade, and public administration.
