Members of council and township staff are delighted to announce the launch of a new look website front page for the Township of Ignace. Long overdue, the project was approved earlier in the summer by council to redesign the front page of the township’s website so that visitors, residents and both national and international guests visiting the site, could more easily navigate and find key documents and reports, pertinent data and other information quickly and with more accessibility.
Phase one of the project was approved by council due to the heavy demand on the township’s website, outdated platform performance, increased security measures and overall refresh opportunities. Phase two of the project, a complete platform rebuild behind the front page and updates to platform capabilities, is being brought forward for council review and approval by staff in late 2025 for 2026 budget allocations.
Jake Pastore, the outreach and communication lead for the township, stated, “It was definitely time to begin the refresh project for the Ignace website, and staff took time to visit best-in-class websites of similar size communities, consulted with experts in the field, and examined and researched the best possible navigation items and most requested data information before moving forward.”
“We were told by many residents, international guests, stakeholders in both municipal and the private sector that there was a heavy demand for information from Ignace, especially after it was selected as Canada’s first-ever site for a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel. Many companies and other stakeholders are exploring housing, economic development and other opportunities in Ignace, and usually visit the community’s website first, and we wanted to make sure that contact information and preliminary data information on the deep geological repository or township operations business is clearly indicated and easier to find.”
The Township of Ignace website went live on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, and efforts are being made by staff to ensure its partners, stakeholders and residents are aware of the changes.
Keith Roseborough, Indigenous and community development strategist for the township, stated, “Upcoming work around the website design will also include interactive features for live surveys for the community, engagement tools for council committees, feedback and information forms for the public on a variety of items, better visuals and increased overall interactive tools for staff to utilize.”
“The website will also prominently feature a news, media and pop-up section to ensure residents and visitors are kept alerted of emergencies, updated fire prevention information and other important public notices, and messages that are also reflected in a new electronic sign in the township,” stated Roseborough.
