Tourist operators and forest companies in the Dryden area are joining together to create a resource stewardship agreement to avoid any friction in the future in the use of the forest. About 60 representatives from tourism, industry and the Natural Resources Ministry turned out for an October workshop in Dryden to discuss forest-management planning. No agreements have yet been signed. The purpose of the gathering was to educate stakeholders about the process and put local issues on the table. A memorandum of understanding signed this year and endorsed by the province provides a framework for negotiating these agreements between holders of sustainable forest licences and resource-based tourism establishments. Similar processes are underway across the North.
