Two City of Thunder Bay long-term care seniors' home will be razed and rebuilt for more than $42 million. City councillors took the advice of a consultant who advised construction of two new 150-bed facilities, including one at the current Dawson Court site and another at an undetermined city location. Project financing will be the topic of a June 10 community services meeting. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care will pay a $1.13-million capital subsidy annually over a 20-year period to fund the two new homes. But the city must still enter into a development agreement with the ministry by June 27. A deadline for project completion of the two homes for the aged is March 2006. Demolition of the existing buildings is estimated at between $700,000 and $800,000, and is not included in the project costs.
