According to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, one in every five employees suffers from some form of mental illness.

As a way to foster a healthy work environment, a new toolkit is now made available to employers through the Ontario Chamber's website.

The kit provides employers several resources and tips on how to create a healthy and comfortable work place.

Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce president Charla Robinson said policies and procedures will be set up to address future mental health issues.

“It provides some links to different tools that are available currently from places like the mental health association, health units and the government around mental health issues,” Robinson said.

“It also provides information on legal requirements for employers as to what their requirements are to help to address employee mental health issues and we think it’s really valuable information for all employers.”

Robinson said the online toolkit is available to all business in Thunder Bay.

The Chamber will also be working with mental health organizations in order to help its members recognize and manage employees with mental health challenges.
