A worker was injured at an Interpaving Ltd. work site in Sudbury on July 25.

A worker was injured at an Interpaving Ltd. work site in Sudbury on July 25.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, Janet Deline, said the injured worker was caught between a building and paving equipment, sustaining injuries to his lower body.

Interpaving Ltd. confirmed the incident, noting the worker has since been treated at hospital and released.

“A veteran and well-respected employee injured his foot while operating an asphalt spreader. The injury has been deemed non-critical by the Ministry of Labour,” Interpaving said in a statement.

“The employee was sent to Health Sciences North for treatment and has since been released. The injury involved bruising. No bones were broken.”

The company said its health and safety team, alongside the Ministry of Labour, conducted an investigation to identify the cause of the occurrence.

“Interpaving Limited is deeply committed to the health and safety of its employees,” Interpaving said.

“We are dedicated to ensuring and creating a safe working environment.”

Interpaving caused controversy in 2015 after the death of a pedestrian at a work site in downtown Sudbury.

Following the incident, the company and the city were charged with a number of offences by the Ministry of Labour. The family of the deceased is suing the city, Interpaving, and the driver of the grader for $2 million.

Following the incident, the City of Greater Sudbury banned Interpaving from bidding on further contracts for roadwork in the city; however, the move does not prevent Interpaving from bidding on subcontract work.
