One person was killed and a second injured on Aug. 21 at a private construction site in the Sudbury bedroom community of Chelmsford when the trusses collapsed.

Ministry of Labour (MoL) spokesperson Janet Deline said in an email they were notified late in the afternoon of Aug. 21 and two inspectors were sent to the scene.

“The employer is Prosteel North,” Deline said.

The MoL inspectors issued two orders for documentation, the email said, and both complied with at the time of inspection.

“One requirement was also issued to not to disturb the scene.”

Two inspectors and an engineer were sent to the scene the following day and ordered the home owner and the employer to provide documentation.

“One order was issued to the constructor (home owner) to develop and submit a plan to safely remove the collapsed trusses,” the email said. “The scene is being held by MoL and our investigation is ongoing.”
