Sault strengthens transatlantic links with Ireland (6/02)

Transatlantic links between Sault Ste. Marie and Ireland continue to evolve as delegates from a trade mission to the Emerald Isle returned home in early June.

Transatlantic links between Sault Ste. Marie and Ireland continue to evolve as delegates from a trade mission to the Emerald Isle returned home in early June. City officials expect to extend the relationship next year with as many as 20 Irish businesses expected to visit the Sault and Northern Ontario.

This latest trade mission attracted 27 delegates, mostly from the Sault and Algoma district, who took part in the four-day Do Business in Ireland Mission, the third such trip organized between the Sault and Louth County, Ireland in as many years.

Early indications are that as many as four strategic alliances could be struck from the more than 200 face-to-face meetings in four Irish communities. A year ago, representatives from 30 small- to medium-sized Irish companies visited the Sault during a larger trade mission to Canada.
