The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre has announced the appointment of Sandra Moore as its new executive director.

Moore will assume the role effective Sept. 15.

"Sandra brings a wealth of experience and energy to the role, with over 20 years of leadership in academia, innovation, and economic development," an Innovation Centre release says.

"Her career has been defined by building high-impact programs, fostering industry collaboration, and leading through transformative growth."

Moore joins the centre from Prince Edward Island, where she served as the inaugural director of the Cleantech Academy and Innovation Centre. In her role there, she brought together diverse partners to accelerate economic development in the province’s clean technology sector.

Prior to that, she was a part of launching a new faculty at NorQuest College in Alberta, where she developed innovative programming in machine learning, environmental science, energy management, and sustainability practices, working closely with industry leaders to shape the future of workforce training.

“I am excited to become the next executive director of the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre,” said Moore.

“SSMIC is an incredibly dynamic organization with so much potential ahead. To help guide programs like Acorn, Harvest Algoma, RAIN, and others is both an exciting opportunity and a meaningful challenge given their growing importance to local and provincial communities.”

Moore will succeed Peter Bruijns, who has led SSMIC for the past seven and a half years. Bruijns will remain with the organization for a short transition period.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sandra to the SSMIC family,” said Mike Biocchi, vice chair of the board of directors.

“Her leadership experience, passion for innovation, and strong network make her the ideal choice to take the organization forward. We’re confident SSMIC will continue to grow and thrive under her direction.”
