Security and protection services firm Norpro is expanding into Thunder Bay with the acquisition of NorthStream Safety & Rehab.

Launched in 2016, NorthStream offers supervisor awareness training, safety assessments, and drug testing programs in industries including mining, forestry, construction, manufacturing, aviation, and more.

“NorthStream Safety & Rehab is the only company in our field that encompasses the full range of health and safety and rehabilitation services," said Donna Nordstrom, owner-operator of NorthStream.

"We believe in the full solution model, like Norpro, and both firms mesh well in terms of their focus on customer service. It's a perfect fit."

NorthStream can test employees for baselines such as hearing and lung function, and its services continue through the employee lifecycle, with job demand, functional, ergonomic and accessibility assessments, Nordstrom said.

Norpro president Brad Gregorini said the acquisition helps Norpro round out its ability to protect a company’s physical assets, people, and data and information networks.

“The occupational pre-employment testing, worksite testing, drug testing, and rehab services in addition to their health and safety help us solve more pain points for our clients,” Gregorini said. “None of our competitors can offer the simplicity of our 'one call to respond to it all' model."

The acquisition is one of several Norpro has made in recent months.

In 2018, Norpro partnered to become the exclusive Northern Ontario dealer for Caliber Communications, which offers the first UL-certified live video-monitoring system, which can replace guards on sites, as well as provide remote internet and cell service.

The company acquired Unique Data Systems and Lucidia Technologies, two Sault Ste. Marie IT firms, in early 2019.

Founded in 1980, Norpro offers a range of full-service security services, specializing in solving, anticipating, and preventing problems for clients for security, health and safety, rehab, business and restaurant equipment, and information technology.

The company is headquartered in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and operates satellite locations in Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
