A Sault Ste. Marie fabricator has received Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification for aluminum fabrication.

Rector Machine Works announced Feb. 26 that it has obtained certification for fusion welding of aluminum fabrication, known as CSA Standard W47.2.

"The advantage of having the certification locally is that projects can be completed faster, as there is no additional shipping time to send jobs out of town, and that also translates to better pricing," said company president Dave Rector.

“Meeting CSA W47.2 was a time-consuming process, but we felt it was important to meet our customers' needs for aluminum work."

"This is a big step for us since we're the only shop in the Algoma area that is certified," added Walter Barbon, the welding and fabricating supervisor.

"Aluminum work can now come to us and is completed onsite."

Established in 1933, Rector is in its third generation of family ownership.

They employ 50 in a 15,000-square foot shop on Sackville Road in a north end industrial park in the Sault.

Certified to do catwalks, platforms, lifts, cages and carts, Rector caters to many clients in forestry, mining, and government agencies who prefer light-weight aluminum for its ergonomic and durability properties, especially in aquatic and marine applications.

The company said it met a number of requirements for certification in qualifying their personnel and welding procedures.

"With the aluminum certification we will continue to provide the same high level of service and impeccable quality of work that our customers expect from us,” said Rector.
