McDougall Energy is expanding its southern Ontario holdings with the acquisition of Rosen Energy Group of Kingston.

Sault Ste. Marie-based McDougall said the move would enable it to move into new communities, including Kingston, Gananoque, Greater Napanee and the surrounding area.

Rosen, which has been serving the Kingston area since 1875, will operate under the McDougall Energy banner as its Kingston office.

The deal is scheduled to close on May 31, 2021.

“This is an exciting opportunity for both businesses to come together and strengthen the home heat and commercial offerings for customers in the Kingston region, with a plan for future growth,” said Darren McDougall, McDougall Energy’s president, in a May 17 news release.

“McDougall Energy is a proud, family-owned business, and we look forward to joining the community with the dedicated Rosen Energy team who customers rely on and trust, thanks to their exemplary customer service and longstanding staff.”

Established in 1949, McDougall Energy is now in its third generation of family ownership.

It distributes and markets propane, Esso and Shell branded home heating oil, fuel and lubricant products.

The company was recently celebrated for its 10th consecutive year as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.
