A leading Tembec senior executive has been appointed president and CEO of Algoma Steel Inc. in Sault Ste. Marie.

Denis Turcotte, 41, will replace the resigning Alexander 'Sandy' Adam, effective Sept. 16.

A former recipient of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 in 1998, an award given to Canada's best corporate achievers, Turcotte leaves his position as Paper Group president and executive vice-president, corporate development and strategy, with forest products giant Tembec Inc.

"Mr. Turcotte is one of the leading executives in the Canadian forest products industry and has established himself as one of the country's rising business leaders," says Ben Duster, Algoma's chairman in a news release. "He has an established track record of improving business results in large, process intensive, heavy-manufacturing concerns with an emphasis on superior service to customers."

Adam, who will step down Aug. 31, announced his intentions to resign three months ago.
