Sault Ste. Marie-based Village Media has expanded its online news platform to Ottawa.

OttawaMatters.com – a partnership with 1310 NEWS, a Rogers Media news radio station – launched on March 5, serving residents of Ottawa, the Ottawa Valley and Gatineau. The new site features breaking local news coverage, feature stories, entertainment, obituaries, classifieds community events, and weather.

OttawaMatters.com also showcases live stream video from Rogers TV Ottawa. With a focus on hyperlocal content, audiences will stay up to date on current affairs with the popular morning talk show Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe, connect with some of the city’s experts on daytime Ottawa and Ottawa Eats, and enjoy exclusive coverage of high school sports and local events.

“1310 NEWS takes great pride in serving Ottawa audiences, and the launch of OttawaMatters.com allows us to further our investment in the community as we continue to evolve in today’s shifting media landscape,” said Mark Campbell, director of news programming at 1310 NEWS, in a release.

“With the recent changes in the market, we saw an opportunity to serve this community even better by expanding our local news coverage through the creation of a site dedicated to stories reflective of this region.”

This marks the second partnership between Village Media and Rogers Media; the pair first collaborated on HalifaxToday.ca last October.

Village Media operates the news sites SooToday.com, GuelphToday.com, BarrieToday.com, BayToday.ca, ElliotLakeToday.com, TimminsToday.com, OrilliaMatters.com, and CollingwoodToday.ca, launched just last week.

It has additional strategic partnerships with Sudbury.com (a sister publication of Northern Ontario Business), TBNewswatch.com in Thunder Bay, and the Manitoulin Expositor (manitoulin.ca).
