Diamond exploration targets identified (6/01)

New targets for diamond exploration in the Temagami-Marten River area have been identified by an Ontario government survey. Survey results released by the Ontario Geological Survey shows an increased possibility of finding kimberlite, the host rock for diamonds. Based on stream sediment sampling surveys, OGS geologists say the area contains abnormal amounts of important mineral grains such as G-10 garnets, chromites, magnesium ilmenites and chrome diopsides. The survey is one of more than two dozen ongoing OGS field projects investigating the province's geology and mineral potential.
