An online platform called Flintbox, developed by University of British Columbia and used for connecting people to academic research, will be available at Lakehead University.

"The neat thing is that they are offering use (of the technology) to all of the technology transfer offices in Western Canada and we are allowed to tag on with them," Barb Eccles, technology transfer officer for Lakehead University, says.

Through numerous Web sites, the platform allows researchers to post their software or content online.
In turn, users can obtain this information by means of payment or simply downloading the material.

The university held a launch of this technology on Oct. 30 in the new Advanced Technology and Academic Centre building.

Eccles says this connection will allow innovators to publicize their work.
