Small- and medium-sized businesses in northeastern Ontario are being provided with an opportunity to integrate technology into their operations.

NEOnet, northeastern Ontario’s non-profit telecommunications development organization, announced a contribution of $80,000 from the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) to launch a one-year pilot project for small- and medium-sized businesses. The purpose is to integrate relevant software and technology into the business thereby allowing them to compete more effectively and internationally.

“Sometimes they do not know what is available, what is possible or what is affordable,” Christy Marinig, chair of NEOnet, says.

“This project will help link business clients to the right resources, based on their unique needs, so they can learn what

technologies would be of specific interest...”

Stakeholders involved in the project will have access to NRC-IRAP’s extensive network of advisors and industry experts, Kathy Keast, IRAP’s technology advisor says. The idea is to direct business clients through to the proper channels should they require answers.

Approximately 500 businesses will be able to participate in the program.
