Impressed by New Liskeard’s labour pool, NuComm International has selected New Liskeard as the site of its new customer support and call centre.
The company expects to launch the centre in early December, and it is expected to employ about 300 people by the end of 2003.
The New Liskeard contact centre will handle both inbound and outbound customer calls on behalf of some of North America’s leading corporations.
In September, NuComm announced it was opening another new call centre in Cobourg, Ontario. With a mid-November launch, the Cobourg site will employ about 300 people by the end of 2003. The two new sites join NuComm’s five other Canadian call centres in Owen Sound, Brockville, Sault Ste. Marie, Welland and St. Catharines.
New Liskeard was chosen as NuComm’s newest site after receiving enthusiastic support from local municipal and economic development officials. The quality and strong response of the local labour pool also impressed NuComm, said NuComm president Réal Bergevin.
NuComm was able to measure the support and quality of potential employees in the area using its proprietary AutoRecruit system, which allows job candidates to phone a 1-800 number and be interviewed automatically about education, qualifications and career interests.
Over 1,000 people answered NuComm’s request for applications and over 280 have now been tested and approved for the new positions.
“In bringing this call centre to the community, the Town of New Liskeard and NuComm International have created a win/win/win deal - a win for residents of New Liskeard, a win for the municipality and a win for NuComm and our valued clients,” said Bergevin.
Known as the “Heart of the Scenic North,” the Town of New Liskeard and its surrounding communities have a
population of over 40,000 and it is the largest community in the South Temiskaming Region of Northern Ontario.
NuComm employs more than 2,200 people in Canada and is an ISO 9001:2000 quality managed environment.
