The head of NorWa Manufacturing and Distribution Co. knew two things when he launched his business three years ago: Northern Ontario forestry mills generate tons of wood waste and horses have a propensity to defecate - a lot. Now to marry the two ideas.
The wood pellet fuel manufacturer has branched off into a new market, producing an absorbent bedding for horses and livestock with a pellet made from saw dust. This year, he plans to ship more than 6,000 tonnes of pellets to his distributors in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. He searched the Internet for potential customers in the U.S. Midwest states and at times personally delivered free samples by truck, at his own expense.
