Worker killed at Holt operations

A man has been killed at St Andrew Goldfields ’ (SAS) Holt property located about 60 kilometres east of Timmins. The worker, who was employed with contractor Orbit Garant Drilling , was killed when he was struck by a tree.

The worker, who was employed with contractor Orbit Garant Drilling, was killed when he was struck by a tree.

The OPP have responded and are investigating the incident in conjunction with the Ministry of Labour, Orbit Garant, and the mining company.

"We are very saddened by this news and our sincere condolences go out to the family, fellow workers, and friends," Duncan Middlemiss, St Andrew’s president and CEO, said in a news release. "SAS is fully engaged in the ongoing investigation, as well as providing support to family and employees at the mine site, as well as to Orbit as it may be required. We remain committed to the health and safety of our employees and contract employees on all of our sites."

St Andrew Goldfields currently operates the Holt, Holloway and Hislop Mines in the Timmins area, producing 100,000 ounces of gold for 2013, and is continuing exploration activities.
