A new centre designed to collect mining data has been announced for the SNOLAB in Sudbury.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. is providing $700,000 towards the establishment of the Mining Observatory Data Control Centre, which will be located at the SNOLAB at Sudbury’s Creighton Mine.
The facility will help mining companies collect, filter and analyze mining and exploration data while better positioning Northern Ontario as a knowledge and service leader in mineral industry data.
“Our investment in this project is providing an opportunity for academia and industry to work together to establish a much-needed mining information data processing centre that will be very helpful in planning new mining projects, such as developing the next generation of tools and protocols for mining at deeper levels,” said Michael Gravelle, Northern development and mines minister, in a news release.
The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2015.
