Nordex Explosives of Kirkland Lake continues to make progress with its Western Canada with its expansion plans.

In a May 29 news release, the company reported that during a meeting in mid-May with its proposed joint venture partners in Vancouver, an undisclosed location was chosen for an initial distribution site and other spots were identified for a manufacturing plant.

Nordex reports it has started the approval process required to begin operations, starting with space for storage, sales and technical support and distribution for its explosive products made in Kirkland Lake.

The company expects operations to begin by this year’s third quarter.

Since 1970, Nordex has been a manufacturer and distributor of explosives for the mining, quarry and construction industries. It is an exclusive supplier of the Buttbuster perimeter control products.

Nordex has unveiled new marketing material to new and potential customers at a CIM conference in Vancouver.

“With continued introductions to potential buyers in Canada including new customers in western Canada, we are positioned to realize benefits from our expansion strategy of 2013,” said Jim Taylor, Nordex president-CEO. “Our existing locations in eastern Canada allows for greater delivery to mining and construction customers, and our western presence will further our national leadership in the explosives industry."
