High water grinds Brigus mill to a halt

High water levels this spring have temporarily suspended mill operations at Brigus Gold in northeastern Ontario.

High water levels this spring have temporarily suspended mill operations at Brigus Gold in northeastern Ontario.

In a May 22 release, the company said abnormally heavy rainfall and melting snow has risen water levels in the holding facility and water management facilities at the Black Fox Mill.

Operations were halted on May 12 and since then the company has been treating and reducing water levels. Milling resumes when levels are deemed normal.

The company said underground and open pit mining operations at the Black Fox Mine have not been affected. Ore is being stockpiled for processing once the mill operation resumes.

The company's Black Fox Mine and mill is located in the Timmins Gold District near the community of Black River-Matheson in northeastern Ontario.
