Goldcorp announced that it has signed a collaboration agreement with the Lac Seul First Nation covering the company's Red Lake mine complex in northwestern Ontario.

The agreement, signed Aug. 16, is said to bring economic benefits to the band of 3,200 members with training, employment, business and contracting opportunities.

It also guides the consultation process on regulatory permitting and sets the stage for Goldcorp's future financial contributions toward community development.

The company is developing the Cochenour mine which begins operations in 2015.
