Liberty Mines has appointed JMX Environmental to clean up asbestos contamination at its Redstone and McWatters mine properties in Timmins.
In a July 29 release, the company said JMX is considered a leading asbestos abatement firm with extensive experience in removing and disposing of asbestos.
Liberty president and CEO Pat Gleeson said the appointment of JMX is “key to a timely remediation of the Redstone mill per order of the Ministry of Labour.”
The company said it has borrowed funds for the cleanup from Jien International Investment, a 60 per cent owner of Liberty.
Liberty owns two former nickel mines in the Timmins area and has a nickel concentrator in the Shaw Dome area, a prospective nickel belt.
