Bill Thornton has been selected as the new Assistant Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines' Northern Development Division. That position will be based in Sault Ste. Marie.

Thornton currently works as Assistant Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Natural Resources. He'll assume his new post on Aug. 19.

Thornton began as a field forester with the Ministry of Natural Resources in Timmins more than 20 years ago. He's held numerous positions dealing with the management of natural resources and economic development with both ministries over the years.

"I am extremely pleased to have Bill Thornton re-joining our team at the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines,” said Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle in a July 12 release. “I have had the pleasure of working with Bill at both of my previous posts as Minister and am confident that his strong leadership abilities and experience will be an invaluable asset in his new role of Assistant Deputy Minister for the Northern Development Division."
