Northern companies land on Best Managed list

Annual rankings weigh multiple criteria in evaluating business success

Northern Ontario companies have found their place on the 2024 list of Canada's Best Managed Companies.

Gincor Werx of Mattawa, McDougall Energy of Sault Ste. Marie, and TULLOCH of Huntsville have all been named to the list. All three have previously been recognized by the program.

The annual ranking, an initiative led by the financial services firm Deloitte, evaluates Canadian-headquartered companies with revenues of $50 million or higher on criteria including strategy, capability and innovation, culture and commitment, governance, and financial performance.

Earning the designation is considered a “mark of excellence,” and awards are generated at four different levels, depending on the number of consecutive years a company remains on the list.

This marks the second year Gincor Werx has appeared.

Located east of North Bay, the company manufactures industrial vehicles, including dump bodies, snow and ice equipment, flat decks, and van bodies, as well as a range of trailers.

It’s experienced significant growth in recent years through a series of acquisitions.

McDougall Energy first appeared on the list in 2011.

The company distributes and markets propane, Esso, and Shell fuel products and lubricants to residential and commercial customers across Canada.

This year, it maintained its Platinum-level status on the list.

This is TULLOCH’s second year on the list.

The company, which was founded in Thessalon, is a multi-discipline engineering consulting firm providing planning, surveying, environmental, and engineering services to a range of clients.

The Canada’s Best Managed Companies program has been released annually for 31 years.
