A creditor owed money by the operators of the Mattawa Timber Train was awarded a judgment for $142,500 in August. Benjamin James Integrated Marketing and Communications, which began doing marketing and promotional work for the Mattawa Temiscaming Excursion Company (MTEC), had secured a writ of seizure, but elected not to proceed, opting instead to resolve the situation through further negotiation. MTEC had previously negotiated a payment schedule with Benjamin James, but the terms had not been complied with. MTEC also owes the Royal Bank $400,000, an undisclosed amount to FedNor and $50,000 to a former director. The Timber Train, which takes passengers on day trips from Mattawa to Temiscaming, Quebec, operated with a $483,000 deficit last year as ridership dropped off.
