There's new leadership for a Kirkland Lake commercial cannabis operation.

Alison Gordon is out as CEO of 48North Cannabis according to a March 9 company release.

Succeeding her is Charles Vennat, the company's chief corporate officer.

The move is effective immediately.

The release did not include a statement from Gordon who served as the company's CEO for nearly three years, nor gave a reason for her departure.

"On behalf of the entire 48North team and our board of directors, I would like to thank Alison for her trailblazing leadership during her three years as 48North's CEO,” said Martin Cauchon, board chair, in a statement.

“During her tenure, we introduced 48North's initial suite of cannabis products to the recreational marketplace, opened one of the world's largest licensed outdoor cannabis operations, raised significant capital, and built a strong brand. We wish Alison all the best in her future endeavours.”

It’s the second departure of a senior executive at the company within a year.

Last September, 48North Cannabis announced that its co-CEO Jeannette VanderMarel tendered her resignation after coming in December 2018 following the company’s acquisition of Good & Green.

48North runs three facilities, two indoor – Kirkland Lake and Brantford – and one outdoor farm in southwestern Ontario.

The Kirkland Lake facility, under the banner of DelShen Therapeutics, is a 40,000-square-foot space on 800 acres, has the capacity to grow 2,500 kilogram of dried cannabis a year.

The facility is licensed to cultivate and sell cannabis, and also produce and extract cannabis oil.

The Toronto-headquartered grower has struck distribution agreements to cater to the women’s health and wellness products in the form of edibles, vape pens, skin care creams and cosmetics.

The publicly-traded company signed a supply deal with province last June to ship product to the Ontario Cannabis Store for retail sale.

"Looking ahead, I have every confidence that 2020 will be a momentous year for 48North,” said Vennat in a statement.

“The company has successfully entered into a new phase of growth, with strong demand across the country for our products. It is now time to leverage our industry leading team to deliver reliable, high-quality and consistent products for Canadian consumers.”
