The 450 employees of Vale Inco's Labrador operations will strike Aug. 1, following a near-unanimous rejection of the company's contract offer.
Sticking points in the offer surround the nickel bonus and a proposal for new hires to be put onto a contribution-based benefit plan.
These are two of the subjects which caused talks to break off between Sudbury union leaders and company negotiators earlier this week. The United Steelworkers Local 6500 vote on July 10-11.
If the offer is turned down, Sudbury's 3,300 workers will hit the picket lines on midnight, July 12.
