A strike may well be on the horizon for United Steelworkers at Vale's Voisey's Bay nickel mine in northern Labrador, where labor talks are ongoing between the United Steelworkers and Vale.
A provincial conciliator was brought into help ease negotiations in May after progress ground to a halt, which could soon translate into a legal strike position for the union.
Union officials have indicated much distance remained between the two sides on such issues as the famed nickel bonus, wages and contract language.
Talks also continue between Vale and the union at its Sudbury operations, where work has been suspended until late July.
