Toronto company Zenith Contracting Ltd. has been awarded a $9.4-million contract to undertake work on a pair of bridges on the North Shore of Lake Huron.

The province is repairing a bridge spanning the Mississagi River on Highway 17 in Iron Bridge and a bridge spanning Lauzon Creek on Highway 538 east of Blind River. According to a news release, “The improvements will reduce future maintenance demands and make the roads safer for families and businesses.”

"The Northern Highways Program makes investments in highway infrastructure that ensure safety on our roads for local residents, while creating jobs for Northerners and maintaining vital transportation links for local industries,” Northern Development Minister Rick Bartolucci said in the release.

The work will begin in July and is scheduled for completion in late 2013. The work is expected to create about 94 jobs.
