FedNor Minister Tony Clement stepped off the inaugural flight of Porter Airlines to Timmins with $500,000 cheque in hand to extend municipal water and sewer infrastructure to the city's west end.

The funding to the City of Timmins is earmarked for the creation of 40 serviced lots over 85 acres of vacant land which is geared toward future industrial development.

In a Jan. 16 release, Clement said the investment positions the city for “long-term growth and prosperity.”

Mayor Tom Laughren said the money helps with the city's diversification efforts.

“This funding will help us meet the immediate needs of the business community, while enabling the municipality to capitalize on future economic opportunities.”
