Timmins' energy retrofit nabs accolades for Siemens

The Ontario Power Authority has hailed Siemens Building Technologies Ltd, a subsidiary of Siemens Canada Limited, for a successful energy efficiency retrofit project undertaken with the City of Timmins.

The project involved the retrofit of 59 city buildings from May 2006 through to July 2007 at a cost of $3.5 million.  Siemens guaranteed the city annual savings of $392,000, with the promise of paying the difference should the actual savings fall short.

Since the project guarantee period began in February 2008, the city has accumulated more than $830,000 in its first full year.

The project has also allowed Timmins to reduce its annual carbon footprint by more than 2,500 tonnes, the equivalent of removing more than 800 mid-sized cars from the road every year.
