Provincial Conservative leader Tim Hudak released his own Northern Ontario growth plan, one, he claims, that contains “practical and straightforward ideas” for business and families.
His Northern Ontario Jobs Plan opposes the McGuinty's government Far North Act, while calling for investment in transportation and broadband infrastructure, eliminating “unnecessary” legal and regulatory hurdles for resource developments, and gives leaders of Northern municipalities and First Nations a “real say” on where resource revenues should go.
Hudak pointed out Sudbury's NORCAT institute as a “strong example” of how business and educators can collaborate to innovate to strengthen worker skills.
“Economic policies that only emphasize Southern Ontario's manufacturing base
ignore the global demand for natural resources such as mineral and forestry reserves that are abundant in Northern Ontario.”
The Niagara West-Glanbrook MPP said under his watch as Northern Development and Mines minister from 1999-2001 Ontario was listed by the Fraser Institute as the best mining jurisdiction in Canada.
