Harold Wilson is the new president and CEO of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce.
He replaces Mary Long-Irwin who resigned June 30 after nine years in the position.
Wilson was the Thunder Bay-based manager of the Trade Investment and Strategy Sectors of the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry.
Previously he held executive director positions with Northwestern Ontario Development Network and the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta. Wilson has also served with the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, on the provincial government's Smart Growth Panel, the Economic Developers Council of Ontario and had developed Nor'wester Valley Estates Subdivision in the city's Neebing Ward.
“This is a role I have aspired to, and I am grateful for the opportunity,” said Wilson in a July 29 statement.
He holds an honours bachelor of commerce from Queen's University and is a graduate of Fort William Collegiate Institute.
“The chamber needs to be a strong and effective advocate for our business community, and Harold will help us meet and exceed that responsibility,” said Chamber chairwoman Lisa Sticca.
