The City of Thunder Bay is all ears on residents having their say on where a proposed events centre should be located.
A Feb. 20 open house attracted more than 350 people – and just as many following on live stream – at a public forum lead by the consulting team chosen to scope out a possible location and research the business case for the venue.
“In my view, it was a very successful open house and the largest I have ever been a part of,” said consulting team lead Conrad Boychuk of CEI Architecture.
Three sites have been shortlisted for the centre: Innova Business Park, Thunder Bay International Airport and the north end waterfront.
An online open house is scheduled for March 15 where residents can view material on the project and can fill out a questionnaire.
“We are looking for views, comments and suggestions from those that could not attend by providing all of the information on our website,” said Michael Smith, the city's general manager of facilities and fleet.
The consulting team will deliver an update to city council on March 12, followed by a second open house on April 11. A recommendation on the best site will come in late May.
