Taking stock of mining opportunities

A labour needs report on potential opportunities in the mineral industry field in northwestern Ontario will be released this month. The report's release will coincides with the 'Mining Your Future' forum scheduled for Feb.

A labour needs report on potential opportunities in the mineral industry field in northwestern Ontario will be released this month.

The report's release will coincides with the 'Mining Your Future' forum scheduled for Feb. 15 at the Best Western, Nor'Wester in Thunder Bay.

The report will look at the labour market supply and demand in the industry between the next two years and 10 years.

Martha Roberts of the Mining Industry Human Resource Council will share the report's key findings.

Workshops will be held on topics such as the trades, prospecting careers, women in mining, transferrable skills, environmental careers and First Nations participation.

The North Superior Workforce Planning Board is leading a two-phase mining project.

The event will include a trade show component on employment, training and representatives from mining companies working in the area.

The report will be distributed to educators, provincial ministries and employment counseling agencies, municipal and economic development officials.
