Pioneer Construction of Sudbury has been awarded a $6.1-million contract to rehabilitate a portion of Highway 6 near Manitowaning on Manitoulin Island.

A 23-kilometre stretch of the highway will see paving, grading and drainage improvements in the area of the McLellan Creek Bridge.

Work is scheduled for completion later this year.

In Manitouwadge, E. E. Seegmiller was awarded a $5-million contract to repave and install new culverts on a 26-kilometre portion of Highway 614, the only road link between the community and the Trans-Canada Highway.

This work will be done by October.
