Pioneer Construction of Sudbury has been awarded a $7.1-million contract to repave a highway in the Sudbury area.
The Highway 17 Southeast Bypass will be resurfaced for an 11-kilometre stretch between the junction of Municipal Road 55 near Coniston to the Highway 69 interchange.
The project also includes fixing bridges on this section of highway between the Canadian Pacific Railway and the highway interchange.
Work begins later this month with completion scheduled for the fall of 2011. The job will create 50 jobs.
“The Southeast Bypass is a critical artery within Greater Sudbury's transportation network that contributes significantly to the effective flow of people and goods across the city,” said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci.
