Sudbury chamber names award recipients

A number of industry representatives were honoured during the Greater Sudbury of Commerce’s 2012 Bell Business Excellence Awards on May 8.

Kirk Petroski, president and founder of Symboticware, was recognized with the Innovation Award. Symboticware produces, amongst other products, the SymBot, a data collection and delivery system which is currently used in a number of Sudbury mines.

Mark Tulloch of Tulloch Engineering was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Tulloch Engineering provides a variety of engineering services to its clients, and has grown to 118 employees with five locations.

WAT Supplies, a janitorial and equipment supply business, was named Company of the Year. In just over two decades, the company has grown from a home-based business to employing 160 from its Sudbury location.

The Chair’s Award went to Maslack Supply Limited, which specializes in engine rebuilds and driveline service. Its sister company, Nordic Bearings, was opened in 1979 to provide hydraulic services including hydraulic hose systems and power transmissions to the industrial sector.

Other winners include Pipat Sripimolphan, owner of My Thai Palace, who received Entrepreneur of the Year; Walter Mozek of Plaza 69 Pharmacy, who received the Service Excellence Award; and Patrick Lehoux and Jason Legault, of Sunwire Systems, who received the Business Startup Award.

Joining them are Peter Cousineau of Don’s Pizzeria and Spaghetti, who received the Hospitality Award; The Ida Sauve Dance Evolution, which received the New Venture Award; and Lynn’s Place, which received the Small Enterprise Award.

The awards gala annually recognizes Sudbury businesses and entrepreneurs who contribute to the community and demonstrate excellence in their fields.
