Sudbury business ideas to be fed to the Dragons

Sudbury's best business ideas are being invited to net the chance of winning $1,000 from GEODE Sudbury, a regional community economic development organization.

Sudbury's best business ideas are being invited to net the chance of winning $1,000 from GEODE Sudbury, a regional community economic development organization.

Through the GEODE Dragon event, entrepreneurs can compete by handing in written submissions on their idea and how to get a business up and running. Submissions must be given by July 30, and must not exceed 500 words.

Semi-finalists will be selected to participate in the live event to be held in council chambers at Tom Davies Square on Sept. 2. There, they will pitch their idea to a panel of local “dragons,” patterned after the CBC Television show, Dragon's Den.

The event is being done to celebrate the re-launch of GEODE's Stepping Stone Entrepreneurship Program.

Five entrepreneurs will participate in the program, which runs six weeks with two three-hour classes per week. These include such courses as business planning, marketing and market research.

Upon the completion of these classes, participants will be eligible to apply for a micro-loan.

Those interested in participating in the GEODE Dragon event should visit http://www.geodesudbury.org/dragons.html for more information.
