Nine out of 10 union locals of the Tembec mill in Kapuskasing voted on April 9, in favour of strike action.
Mayor Al Spacek said he has been made aware of the situation, but is still hopeful that the two sides will be able to find common ground.
“I'm sure nobody, including the union, wants to be on strike in this economy.” he said. “I remain optimistic that there will be a solution that will be acceptable to both sides.”
It's been reported that the unions are upset that they will once again be forced to make concessions.
The workers will be able to strike on April 19, 2012.
