A steel roll-forming plant slated for construction in Little Current is back on track, after the province approved $125,000 in funding machinery for the venture.

The Kilganan Group Inc. originally planned to set up the plant, which will manufacture housing components such as steel studs and trusses, in the Espanola industrial park. However, the plan was scrapped last June when funding could not be obtained by the Northern Ontario Heritage FundCorp. (NOHFC).

Kilganan now plans to construct the plant in Little Current. Funding was provided through the NOHFC’s Northern Ontario Entrepreneur Program.

Additional businesses to receive money through the initiative include J.K. Automotive in Kagawong, which will use $56,000 to open an automotive repair services shop; J.K.G. Construction in Garden River, which will use $53,750 to launch an Aboriginal-owned business specializing in concrete work; and Mark House Doctor in Wawa, which will use $7,500 to establish a handyman and construction service specializing in remodelling houses.

In addition, Kat’s Pet Supplies in Mindemoya received $6,000, while Natural Yard Systems in Blind River will use $3,953 to manufacture a new product aimed at stimulating plant growth.

Through the Northern Ontario Young Entrepreneur Program, Kayla’s Takeout and Delivery will open a new restaurant in Hornepayne with its $25,000 grant, and Munchies Snack Bar will be launched in Sheshegwaning using $20,563 in grant money.
