Sault Ste. Marie company Solar Logix, SSM has been retained to install a 90-kilowatt flat-roof-mount solar photovoltaic array at Ecole Notre Dame des Grand Lacs, a city high school.

The company was the successful bidder, following a request for proposals issued by Le Conseil Scolaire Catholique Du Nouvel-Ontario in September, to design, supply and install the system.

The addition of solar panels comes after renovations to the school.

“We are very happy with the results of the tendering process and Solar Logix,” Gerry Bugyra, general manager for Solar Logix, SSM, said in a news release. “SSM has put in place a team of experts to complete the solar array installation using all of our own specially trained installers to complete this job.”

Ruscio Masonry and Construction Ltd. of Sault Ste. Marie was awarded the contract to complete the new building and renovations of the school.

Local solar panel manufacturer Heliene Inc. will supply the 305-watt solar panels, while Sunrise Power will supply the Solectria inverters. The racking and design layout will be supplied by Unistrut Canada, with the mechanical installation by SEI.

Project manager Trevor Sawchyn Sawchyn, who has worked on several Feed-in Tariff and microFIT projects, will oversee the planning, supervision and construction of the project, estimates the project to be complete in four to six weeks' time, pending weather conditions.
