Sault MP made steel committee chair

Sault Ste. Marie MP Bryan Hayes has been named chair of the parliamentary Steel Caucus of the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA).

Sault Ste. Marie MP Bryan Hayes has been named chair of the parliamentary Steel Caucus of the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA).

The committee is comprised of members of parliament (MPs) from across Canada who work to understand issues and developments within the steel industry. The committee works with the CSPA to advocate for public policy that advances the interests of the steel industry.

Two CSPA member businesses in Hayes' riding, Essar Steel Algoma and Tenaris Tubes, are major employers in Sault Ste. Marie.

Hayes takes over the role of chair from David Sweet, MP for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale. Sweet vacated the role to serve as chair of the House Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.
